I think my mum has made possibly the oddest comment about my writing style ever while I was home at the weekend. Can't really remember quite how we got onto the subject of my writing but this was what she had to say:
'You need to be more careful with your writing style it is a it to similiar to Enid Blytons'
Jaw drop and falling off the stool nearly follows. I had to dig an old Famous Five book after that and a huge reread took place. The following conclusions were drawn -
1. I do not use the language she does
2. I write much better paragraphs
3. When I write a story there aren't exclamation points at the end of nearly every sentence.
4. There are some similarities in how we both include a lot of the thoughts of characters in the narrative to move the story along instead of reams of action and description.
I found 4. interesting, she's definitely helped shaped my love of reading and writing and I've learned something from her. But I am not worryingly close to her style.
